Argonne National Laboratory (http://www.anl.gov), one of the nation’s largest science and engineering research labs, has an opportunity to develop our high-impact technologies and build strategic relationships with industrial partners to advance and commercialize these technologies.  We are seeking an innovative, strategic and forward thinking individual to serve as our Chief Technology Development and Commercialization Officer and Division Director.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate an entrepreneurial drive and ability to lead our Technology Development and Commercialization organization.  The position requires someone capable of building key industrial partnerships to unlock the potential of our technologies in the marketplace.  Our goal is to ignite an innovation ecosystem that strengthens partnerships among universities, laboratories, and industry to accomplish these goals. In the past, these, public-private partnerships have created some of the great inventions of our time, such as the transistor, laser, charge-coupled device, and internet. The commercialization of these discoveries have developed national economies and created millions of high quality jobs, raising quality of life around the world.  Argonne is looking for the right person to continue to help drive and ignite efforts in this space for the future.

As the Laboratory’s advocate and expert in technology development and commercialization, this individual will be paramount in driving Argonne’s collaborations with industry partners, universities, other laboratories, and government agencies.  The chosen candidate will transform our Technology Development and Commercialization division into a best in class organization and have a vision that will place Argonne at the center of the technology boom currently taking place in the Chicagoland area, across the region, the nation, and beyond.  The next leader of this division will work hand-in-hand with Senior Laboratory leaders to undertake this exciting transformation and will leverage Argonne’s mission of applying a unique mix of world-class science, engineering, and user facilities to deliver innovative research and technologies, to help map the future direction of science and technology at both, the basic and applied science level.

The high level objectives of this exciting role will be:

  • Define and implement a new strategic plan, mission, and vision for the division; 
  • Integrate the Laboratory’s programs into the technology and innovation ecosystem of the region, the nation, and beyond;
  • Build strategic industrial partnerships to support Argonne’s mission and vision;
  • Provide leadership and focus to a newly redefined organization;
  • Build on Argonne’s legacy as a leader in creating new knowledge that addresses the most important scientific and societal needs of our nation.
