Conner Prochaska has been named the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) first Chief Commercialization Officer and will serve as the Director of the Office of Technology Transitions (OTT).

The appointment was announced by U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry. “Mr. Prochaska’s background working on new and inventive technology transition programs at the Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency coupled with his private sector experience will make him an outstanding leader for OTT as the three-year old enterprise begins to gain momentum,” said Perry. “I’m confident that technology commercialization for the benefit of the American people will continue to advance under his leadership.”

As the Director of the OTT, Prochaska’s responsibilities will extend across DOE’s program offices, 17 national laboratories, and other facilities across the country. He will oversee DOE’s Energy Investor Center, the Technology Commercialization Fund, the Technology-to-Market program, and the coordination of tech transfer activities and best practices throughout the department.

He most recently served as Senior Advisor and Chief of Staff for DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). Prochaska previously served as Senior Vice President and the Associate General Counsel for a public investment fund.

Chanette Armstrong, who had served as DOE’s OTT Director since January 2018, will move to ARPA-E to serve as its new Principal Deputy Director.
