The Office of Innovation Commercialization (OIC) is looking for the right person to handle cradle-to-grave responsibilities for an ever-expanding portfolio of innovations/intellectual properties (especially patents and copyrights). The Technology Transfer Associate (TTA) will identify great new technologies, work with innovators to chart the course from bench to the marketplace, develop partnerships with industry and investors, negotiate option and license agreements, catalyze collaborations with companies, and much more. 

The position will include but not be limited to the following functions:

  • Actively market AU innovations to the private sector.
  • Draft and negotiate intellectual property options and license agreements.
  • Perform intellectual property mining, analysis, and marketing landscapes.
  • Develop marketing pieces for the OIC website, develop brochures, and generate other materials in support of OIC’s marketing efforts.
  • Provide consultative assistance to faculty, staff, and students around intellectual property issues.
  • Foster and facilitate entrepreneurial activities.
  • Provide broad-based intellectual property support in such areas as basic sponsored research, clinical sponsored research, material transfer agreements, confidential disclosure agreements, inter-institutional agreements, etc.
  • Assist the Director and Associate Vice President as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university

Departmental Requirements – Knowledge, Abilities, Skills

  • Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other computer software/databases
  • Must possess initiative and creativity
  • Must be a self-driven, highly motivated team player who can speak “science to business” and speak “business to science”
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks; work with a wide range on individuals both internally/externally
  • Ability to negotiate with the private sector on a daily basis and serve in a “deal maker” role
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision; exercise sound judgment and decision-making; maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in life sciences and one-to-three years’ of related work experience as well as business experience

Shift: Days/M-F

Pay Grade: 23

Salary: $69,398/Annual – $69,812/Annual

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
