Ohio U task force formed to develop path to deeper industry engagement

Ohio University President Duane Nellis has created the Corporate Engagement Task Force to develop a roadmap for building stronger relationships with university partners. The task force will focus on how university-wide and college-specific relationships can grow into deeper strategic partnerships, according to task force chair Ken Johnson.

“We are trying to make Ohio University more business friendly,” said Scott Miller, a member of the task force.

Nellis wants the 11-person task force to develop a unified strategy for the university, Johnson explained. By better coordinating across the university’s many departments and colleges, corporate relations leaders can look to make the school more welcoming for businesses while also taking stock of a wider range of corporate touchpoints. For example, OhioHealth has partnerships with the medical school, health sciences, business and communication programs.

The health system has been working with OU for decades, starting back to the beginning of the medical school, said Bruce Vanderhoff, OhioHealth chief medical officer. “When you have large organizations, they are inherently complex. Working together to accomplish a task sometimes can run the risk of getting tied up in red tape,” he noted.

The task force will be developing a strategic plan that provides recommendations to Nellis on how to make OU more business friendly, Miller said, adding that the task force will have to work at the speed of business to improve efficiency in the way they form industry relationships while also building out collaborations with current partners.
