The University of Washington (UW) has chosen longtime professor Françios Baneyx to serve as director of its CoMotion innovation center.

CoMotion helps aspiring entrepreneurs through start-up education and access to mentors and funding sources. The university describes it as a “collaborative innovation hub dedicated to expanding the economic and societal impact of the UW community.”

Baneyx currently serves as professor of chemical engineering, director of the UW Center for the Science of Synthesis Across Scales, and adjunct professor of bioengineering. He also cofounded the UW life science startup Proteios in 2015.

“Françios is a respected researcher, teacher and innovator with connections throughout academia and industry, as well as firsthand experience with start-ups,” says UW Provost Mark Richards. “I am confident that with his interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to his work and leadership, Françios will build upon CoMotion’s success and further propel the university’s culture of innovation.”
