Essential Functions:

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess and estimate the commercial value of new invention disclosures in the physical science domain.
  • Perform market research, technology valuations, create marketing materials, identify potential licensees and initiate outreach to engage potential licensees and/or collaborators.
  • Work closely with the business development managers and Purdue innovators to develop strategies for the commercialization of Purdue technologies.
  • Communicate with industry counterparts, innovators, BD managers and patent attorneys on invention disclosures, marketing and licensing activities, and IP matters.
  • Assist the business development managers with the initiation and execution of licensing agreements from the assigned IP portfolio.
  • Develop and present strategies to enable technology transfer of Purdue intellectual property, primarily in areas of physical sciences.
  • Advise Purdue inventors regarding Purdue intellectual property policies and related technology commercialization issues.
  • Draft contract amendments and monitor contract compliance and other aspects of relationships with licensees and collaborators.
  • Participate in educational development opportunities to develop an in-depth understanding of the technology licensing field.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and account for budget expenditures associated with all assigned duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of technology transfer within industry and/or academia preferred.
  • Basic understanding of legal documents.
  • Understanding of intellectual property protection mechanisms and strategy desirable.
  • Excellent team work, organizational, problem-solving, computer, written/verbal communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with people from varied disciplines at various leadership levels in an organization and with managing multiple complex projects.
  • Must be curious and deeply value exposure to and learning about new technology, concepts, people and organizations.
  • Must be capable of directly managing, shaping and transacting high value, technology- based opportunities.
  • Must be able to represent Purdue Research Foundation and gain the confidence, trust and respect of innovators, corporate executives, entrepreneurs and administrators.
  • Individual should be highly organized with ability to effectively prioritize and concurrently manage multiple opportunities and relationships with competing deadlines.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.


  • Undergraduate degree in science, engineering, informatics, cybersecurity or other physical science domain; advanced degree in business, law or sciences strongly preferred.
  • Related industry experience highly desirable.
