The Department of Energy (DOE)’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has launched a program to support the development and commercialization of tech-based solutions for the coronavirus pandemic.

The COVID-19 Rapid Access Licensing Program will enable U.S. companies to license select technologies at no cost for one year. The licenses are non-exclusive.

Participating companies must demonstrate intent to use the technologies to address issues related to the novel coronavirus. They must also commit to commercializing resulting products as widely and rapidly as possible.

Alternative licenses will be available for companies developing products that require exclusivity to be eligible for large investments, such as for drug delivery systems, vaccines and diagnostic technologies.

The ORNL Technology Transfer Office is facilitating the program and will continue to build its portfolio of COVID-19-related technologies for licensing.

“ORNL has shown leadership in adapting our research, operations and community engagement efforts to combat COVID-19 and mitigate its effects on our community,” says ORNL Director Thomas Zacharia. “We are pleased to now offer industry partners a quicker and easier way to use our strong technology portfolio for COVID-19 solutions.”
