The University of Georgia (UGA) Foundation is committing up to $10 million in a new fund designed to support innovation and entrepreneurship.

As part of the new fund, the UGA Foundation will partner with the Office of Research’s Innovation Gateway to help bring new university technologies to the marketplace through start-up activity, technology licensing, and other avenues.

The foundation will also connect UGA start-ups to investors and facilitate financial partnerships with the goal of driving interest in university innovation and building on its commercialization success.

This year, UGA ranked second among all U.S. colleges and universities for new technologies brought to the marketplace, marking the sixth consecutive year UGA has been included in the top five.

“The UGA Foundation wants to do everything possible to help foster innovation at UGA,” says John Crawford IV, UGA Foundation chairman. “It is important that the foundation serve as a strategic partner to help support one of the university’s top goals.”

Derek Eberhart, associate vice president for research and executive director at Innovation Gateway, comments, “We’re thrilled by this commitment from the UGA Foundation, which will support our primary mission of making UGA innovations available for the benefit of the wider world. This commitment helps continue the university’s positive momentum in innovation and entrepreneurship that led to the formation of UGA’s Innovation District initiative.”
