Technology Transfer Associate | Cannabis Industry – LP | Kelowna, British Columbia


Job Description

Reporting to the Technology Transfer Manager, the Technology Transfer Associate is responsible for integrating manufacturing processes from third parties or our Client’s Research and Development (R&D) department into the Company’s commercial manufacturing program. This position involves working with interdisciplinary teams both within and outside of the Company to identify and overcome gaps in the technology transfer process. Successful candidates will have extensive experience in development roles within a cGMP-regulated industry.


  • Ability to generate documents related to the technology transfer department, primarily focused on batch records & SOP’s for product launch and updates to existing processes.

  • Work on product development with Validation and the R&D team to gain close insight into best practice methods for implementation into production.

  • Ability to review process and equipment documentation while providing recommendations/input to support continuous improvement.

  • Work with cross-functional teams of SME’s in relevant areas to develop detailed URS for new equipment.

  • Communicate with multiple vendors on a daily basis to finalize design requirements for custom purpose-built process equipment.

  • Ability to review and update equipment drawings and work with vendors to get final revision drawings.

  • Support Validation department in the process validation of new/ scaled-up processes.

  • Required to generate IQ protocols based on vendor qualification documentation equipment specifications.

  • Work with cross-functional teams and vendors to support validation in generation of OQ protocols and in turn PQ protocols.

  • Assist with installation, commissioning, optimization, and maintenance of production equipment.

  • Assess manufacturing requirements and capabilities prior to the transfer of new processes into the manufacturing facilities; generate facility fit assessments and high-level gap assessments.

  • Manage development of project plans with a focus on the achievement of project goals.

  • Develop process flow diagrams for new process introduction.

  • Support a cross-functional risk assessment team for new processes and
    equipment being implemented.

  • Coordinate cross-functional meetings between R&D, Compliance,
    Quality, Production, and Validation for the implementation and transfer
    of equipment and processes.

  • Troubleshoot issues with regard to process/ equipment feasibility/
    qualification requirements.

  • Work effectively and efficiently in a team environment to ensure
    maximum and high-quality output.

  • Document all pertinent technical information and observations in project workbooks to provide historical support for future pilot scale-ups.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, production or process engineering, pharmacy, or related field.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience working in pharmaceutical and/or cannabinoid product development/manufacturing preferred.

  • Experience with risk analysis of product/ process and equipment.

  • Experience performing direct validation activities, such as protocol creation or testing.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize your workload.

  • Organizational and record-keeping skills and ability to handle multiple tasks with attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of the Cannabis Act Regulations.

  • Strong familiarity with GMP or ISO procedures and compliance.

  • Basic knowledge of food safety, pharmaceutical production processes, lean manufacturing, QC documentation, and third-party audit processes (GMP, HACCP, Organic, NHP, SQF) are strong assets.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Continuous improvement and Project Optimization is preferred.

  • Process development experience preferred.

  • GMP experience preferred.

  • Ability to complete a satisfactory criminal record check.
