Director of Technology Transfer to join the Office of Innovation Commercialization at Augusta University

 

Augusta University has exclusively retained the Vortechs Group to find their next Director of Technology Transfer to join the Office of Innovation Commercialization.

The Director of Technology Transfer leads and manages the identification, protection, marketing, licensing, and management of intellectual property (e.g. patents, copyrights). They will lead and manage the development of intellectual property options and licenses with the private sector. The successful candidate will encourage and support the development and sustaining entrepreneurial ecosystem. In addition, they will oversee the negotiation of faculty support agreements such as confidential disclosure agreements, material transfer agreements, data use agreements, and inter-institutional agreements.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and participate in the drafting and negotiation of intellectual property options and license agreements
  • Lead and manage patenting activities and associated budget in support of patent licensing
  • Provide consultative assistance to faculty, staff, and students around intellectual property issues
  • Lead and participate in the marketing of AU innovations to the private sector
  • Foster and facilitate entrepreneurial activities, including assisting with incubator operations (Life Sciences Business Development Center)
  • Provide broad-based intellectual property support in such areas as basic sponsored research, clinical sponsored research, material transfer agreements, confidential disclosure agreements, inter-institutional agreements, etc.
  • Mentor and support the technology transfer associate and the technology transfer specialist
  • Assist the Associate Vice President, Innovation Commercialization
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Five years’ of demonstrated and progressive experience in academic technology transfer and/or industry business development.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
  • Self-driven and highly motivated leader and manager who can speak “science to business” and “business to science” with a wide array of internal and external partners

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD from an accredited college or university, preferably in the life sciences
  • Ten or more years of academic technology transfer and/or industry business development experience
