Director of Entrepreneurial Talent at Purdue Research Foundation


Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the primary contact point between successful entrepreneurial alumni and the Purdue Foundry eco-system and companies.
  • Recruit entrepreneurial talent to the Purdue ecosystem.
  • Design, test, and iterate solutions to match founders with early-stage talent (i.e., CEO, C-Suite roles, board members) and keep talent engaged within the Purdue ecosystem.
  • Provide training, supervision and oversight of talent relationships to include recruiting, screening, equipping, and onboarding talent and founders, as well as supporting, guiding, and documenting the match.
  • Facilitate talent/startup matches through new programs (such as CXO speed dating), one-off introductions, or resume book connections.
  • Educate founders and talent through coaching and developing educational content and best practices.
  • Build partnerships across the Midwest to aid in talent efforts (such as gBeta, universities, and other ecosystems/incubators).

Additional Responsibilities:

Advising Programs

  • Establish, brand, and promote the program in the region.
  • Advising:
    • Recruit advisors and startups.
    • Manage expectations of advising sessions for both advisors and startups.
    • Coach startup on how to prepare for advising meetings.
    • Match startups with group of advisors.
    • Facilitate ongoing advising sessions.
  • If applicable, manage supporting technology platforms used for talent programs.
  • Track and measure outcomes.
  • Work with and in support of the Entrepreneur-in-residence on the strategic aspects of the advising program.
  • Collaborate with Foundry team to recruit appropriate startups.
  • Plan and participate in founder and talent recognition to establish, brand and promote the program in the region.

 Mentoring Programs

  • Establish, brand, and promote the program in the region.
  • Mentoring:
    • Recruit mentors and entrepreneurs.
    • Coordinate mentor orientation/training and vet mentors prior to program.
    • Match mentors to entrepreneurs.
    • Manage onboard mentoring pairings throughout 6-month program.
    • Establish procedures that ensure the quality of advisory and mentoring provided to companies.
  • Manage supporting technology platforms used for talent programs as needed.
  • Track and measure outcomes.
  • Work with and in support of the Entrepreneur-in-residence on the strategic aspects of the mentor program.
  • Work collaboratively with Purdue Alumni Association and other Purdue college alumni groups (e.g., Ag Alumni Association) to build a network of Purdue affiliated advisors and mentors.
  • Collaborate with Foundry team to recruit appropriate startups and entrepreneurs.


  • Educate founders and talent:
    • Coach startups on their hiring needs and co-develop expectations for hiring a CEO.
    • Coach C-suite candidates on what to expect and screen for quality and fit.
    • Develop educational content regarding hiring a C-suite for technical founders.
    • Experiment with different screening and matching methodologies (such as personality assessments, grit assessments).
    • Develop hiring best practices and resources to streamline the recruiting and interview process.


  • ​Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • General knowledge of the entrepreneurial ecosystem desired; knowledge of Midwest entrepreneurial ecosystems a plus.
  • A natural connector/ networker.
  • Capable of developing a systematic approach to talent engagement and management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook preferred. 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects. 
  • Must be a motivated, adaptable team player with the ability to exercise initiative and work well with others. 
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.


  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or related Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience developing, promoting, or marketing programs or events.
