General Manager Medical Technology Marketing & Business Development at Cleveland Clinic Innovations


The General Manager for Medical Technology Marketing & Business Development will help identify partners and market early-stage medical technologies (new therapeutics, diagnostics, device, health IT, or care delivery solutions). Cleveland Clinic Innovations (CCI), the commercialization arm of Cleveland Clinic, grew out of the enterprise’s commitment to “Patients First” and our renowned innovative culture.   • Actively market Cleveland Clinic medical technologies to outside organization for licensing opportunities.
  • Attend medical and venture capital conferences to identify suitable partners for collaborations and commercialization.
  • Build relationships with corporate partners, identify areas of mutual strategic interest, obtain access to their R&D dashboards and strategic agendas, and create collaborations to develop new technologies.
  • Obtain and share healthcare market knowledge.
  • Engage local partners (e.g., Cleveland Innovation District) to market Cleveland Clinic technologies and generate resources to support development efforts.
  • Support marketing and outreach efforts. 
  • Special projects, including the evaluation of external (non-Cleveland Clinic) technologies, for strategic investment/support.
  • Track and report on commercial partnerships, related revenue, and brand growth. 
  • Integrate with and support all teams.
  • Develop and implement operational plans that work toward the strategic priorities of the organization.  Assist with the development and responsible for meeting operational metrics. 
  • Uphold compliance to regulatory requirements in all areas of operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in life or physical sciences, biomedical engineering, finance or business or other relevant field.
  • An advanced degree in business administration and/or legal (JD, MBA, or JD, MBA) is preferred. This may be offset by significant experience working for a large academic medical institution.

Complexity of Work:

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with academic and corporate sectors and comprehend details of new and diverse technologies.
  • Must be a self-starter with strong work ethic and excellent marketing and negotiation skills.
  • Must have demonstrated comfort with multi-tasking and the ability to meet deadlines.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum 7 years of relevant industry experience (out-licensing and/or in-licensing medical devices, therapeutics, diagnostics, and/or HIT) required. 
  • Minimum 7 years of demonstrated success leading teams and others required. 
  • Demonstrated business development skills and deep network and knowledge of the medical technology industry. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
  • May require periods of sitting, standing and the ability to walk to various locations throughout the health system to attend meetings.
  • Must have normal or corrected vision and be able to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person.

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
