Comings and goings

The Polksy Exchange start-up incubator at the University of Chicago has hired Abigail Ingram, a practicing attorney and entrepreneurial mentor, to serve as executive director.

The Polsky Exchange supports student and faculty start-ups by hosting entrepreneurs as speakers, providing workshops and co-working space, and offering a range of entrepreneurial resources.

In her new role, Ingram will engage with the local business community to address their needs and work with the Exchange’s start-ups to help them grow and increase their revenues, among other efforts.

Previously, Ingram launched and directed the Women in Entrepreneurship Institute at DePaul University’s Driehaus College of Business. She says she started the program “out of response to a lack of resources and programming available to women entrepreneurs who, the data tells us, have a higher return on investment when they do receive investment but are far less likely to actually get investment.”

On her new role, Ingram says she will focus on supporting “those who have an idea and are ready to launch the next business, whether it’s retail, brick-and-mortar, online, the next tech company, whatever it turns out to be; and then those who have been members of the Exchange in the past.”
