Assistant Vice President, Innovation & Commercialization at Texas State University

 

The AVP is a senior level executive who provides leadership for the innovation, commercialization and external engagement functions of the Office of the Chief Research Officer (CRO). The AVP will be responsible for driving transformative and sustainable initiatives to translate academic discoveries from Texas State University into commercial products to benefit society, impact global public health, and improve the overall quality of life.

The incumbent collaborates with the CRO and senior leadership to set an agenda that defines the University’s program in innovation and external engagement. The AVP creates partnerships that link university, state and industry resources to address technology commercialization and external engagement needs; ensures that faculty, staff and students are provided guidance and information on the university policies as they relate to intellectual property as well as the processes/procedures involved in seeking and obtaining patent protection for inventions, and in the marketing and licensing of university technologies; and leverages appropriate technologies arising from the discoveries of university faculty/staff/students in order to enhance university’s educational and research missions.

Internally, the AVP will play a critical role, working in collaboration and partnership with Deans, other VPs, and University leaders, in heading up a cultural and organizational innovation initiative to create the environment and mechanisms to motivate and empower faculty inventors to recognize marketable research opportunities and discoveries and to bring these new ideas forward for commercialization.

Externally, the AVP will be an advocate for innovation, commercialization and external engagement in order to establish relationships with both, domestic and global companies/organizations/institutions and to structure partnerships to advance new technologies and research collaborations.
