Senior Licensing Officer, Health Sciences – The Ohio State University

They have exclusively retained Gardner Innovation Search partners to find their next Senior Licensing Officer, Health Sciences.

The Senior Licensing Officer is the most senior position among the licensing staff positions. The SLO is responsible for identifying technologies with commercial applications, evaluating the commercial potential of technologies, identifying potential licensees, preparing non-confidential technical information for marketing purposes, developing and implementing specific marketing strategies for each technology, and drafting and negotiating mid- to large-sized license and option agreements. Responsible for performing their own negotiations related to the Intellectual Property (IP), as well as demonstrating valuation and IP mastery. The SLO may sometimes be responsible for mentoring and supporting licensing analysts, licensing associates, licensing managers and student interns. Emphasis on marketing a strategic technology portfolio and performing business development activities to manage a deal pipeline and bring deals to closure.

Additional Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Life or Health Sciences and related fields of study or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience in therapeutics
  • At least 3 and preferably 5 years of experience in business development.
  • Intermediate knowledge proficiency in licensing and intellectual property principles. Examples include: Intermediate licensing terms, broad fundamentals of intellectual property, intermediate understanding of marketing methods, and intermediate negotiation knowledge.
