Senior Licensing/Licensing Associate at Georgia Tech
 
Georgia Tech has exclusively retained Gardner Innovation Search Partners to hire a Senior Licensing/Licensing Associate (title based on experience).
The Senior Licensing/Licensing Associate will work proactively with Georgia Tech researchers to ensure appropriate protection of intellectual property, innovations, and discoveries, while striving for commercialization of innovations.
Responsibilities include:
- Invention review – Review, research, and assess new discoveries and innovations for commercial value, patentability, marketability, and technical understanding.
- Assist legal counsel in seeking patent protection for Georgia Tech inventions and managing patent prosecution activities.
- Manage relationships with faculty, provide feedback and guidance to faculty regarding inventions and discoveries, assist faculty in navigating the patent process, help faculty seek additional funding and resources to further development of Georgia Tech inventions and discoveries.
- Actively market innovations to potential industry partners and participate in other business development activities
- Under the direction of the Director and Associate Director, assist in raising local, regional, and national awareness of commercialization activities and research at Georgia Tech.
- Draft and negotiate license agreements and various other intellectual property contracts.
- Identify, investigate, and analyze potential licensing opportunities to achieve growth and financial profitability, in accordance with university objectives and strategic plans.
- Plan and implement licensing promotions to maximize office profile.
- Apply advanced knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.
- Manage projects / processes, working independently with limited supervision.
- Participate in professional development and training opportunities.
To excel in this position, candidates must have:
- Physical sciences background required, advanced or bachelor’s degree; experience in physical science, engineering, information technology or software.
- Ability to draft and negotiate agreements, with minimal supervision, for licensing, transfer of materials and non-confidential disclosures.
- Understanding of how to research technology markets, how to work with faculty and students in the evaluation of early-stage technologies, and a basic understanding of intellectual property and contract law.
- Excellent analytical & communication skills, including the ability to present written or oral materials in a concise and professional manner; Independent judgment and initiative are required.
- Demonstrated ability or ability to efficiently learn how to interact effectively and productively with faculty and senior officials from academia, industry, and government.
- Ability to successfully manage a large portfolio of diverse technologies and carry multiple, extended projects concurrently through to completion.
- 2-6+ years’ experience in university technology transfer or equivalent experience, M.S. or PhD preferred.
