Washington University: Technical Marketing Associate/Manager

 

The Office of Technology Management (OTM) at Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) is hiring a Technical Marketing Associate/Manager.  The role is responsible for developing and executing the strategies associated with the marketing of the institution’s intellectual property (IP), as well as engaging industry partners in potential licensing opportunities. 

  • Organization: Washington University in St. Louis (WashU)
  • Title: Technical Marketing Associate/Manager
  • Salary range: Up to $105,000, commensurate with experience
  • Work environment: WashU prefers an on-campus presence within a hybrid work environment with 2 days in the office/3 days home. However, this position may be considered for remote work
  • VisaSponsorship: Willing to obtain a work visa for a highly qualified candidate(s). 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Research potential IP marketing strategies by engaging with individuals at other academic institutions and industry.
  2. Identify and implement the resources needed to build-out a comprehensive program for Washington University IP marketing.
  3. Determine the best methods for management of contacts and interactions with contacts within OTM’s operational database, and institute procedures and best-practices for OTM’s coordination of such information, including the ability to report metrics and respond to external inquiries.
  4. Oversee and coordinate a team of technical writers and individuals researching appropriate and market-campaign specific industry contacts and contact information. 
  5. Prepare one-page marketing sheets for market campaign purposes, identify contacts, and run marketing campaigns on new university IP. This may be done by the Technical Marketing Associate/Manager or by oversight of technical writers and contact generators. Ensure that marketing sheets meet the requisite level of quality.
  6. The Technical Marketing Associate/Manager will be responsible for identifying and tracking metrics associated with the department’s marketing efforts.

Minimum Requirements:   

  1. Master or Doctorate in the life/biological sciences, medicine, biomedical engineering, engineering, or physical sciences.
  2. Three years of experience in a university technology transfer office or in commercial development within the private sector.

Preferred Qualifications:   

  1. Business experience in private industry or a Master of Business Administration degree would be a plus.
  2. Five years working experience in a university technology transfer office or in commercial development within the private sector.
  3. Must be able to assess the potential for a nascent technology in the commercial arena.
  4. Excellent communication skills and be able to prioritize and manage a portfolio of technology cases.
  5. Ability to make appropriate decisions as it relates to technology transfer activities.
  6. Exceptional and demonstrated ability to provide superior customer service to internal and external clients.
