Technology transfer offices and start-ups are used to operating in crisis mode, but the coronavirus shutdown poses a whole new set of unknowns, what-ifs, and other uncertainties. Most will feel the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic for months and possibly years to come.  As a result, tech transfer offices and the start-up companies they support need to work together to navigate these choppy waters while protecting their intellectual property — for example, by taking advantage of various governmental programs such as the CARES ACT, modifying license terms and conditions, and conserving capital.

Tech Transfer Central’s Distance Learning Division has teamed up with esteemed attorney Tyson Benson and Senior Associate Director with the Office of Industry Engagement at Georgia Tech Research Corporation Mark S. Coburn for this 60-minute webinar that will discuss the critical issues TTOs and university start-ups are facing — and how to successfully navigate these new challenges.

Weathering the COVID-19 Storm: Supporting University-Based Start-ups and Protecting Intellectual Property

Topics will include:

  • Tips for helping your start-ups take advantage of the small business provisions in the CARES Act and other similar legislation
  • Best practices on how to approach revising a license agreement and how other institutions are approaching licensing, reporting, and milestones in this environment
  • Strategies for conserving capital by leveraging programs set forth by the United States Patent and Trademark Office
  • Planning for PTO deadline modifications and budgeting accordingly

Plus: Get all of your questions answered during the interactive Q&A portion of the program
