Building solid, scalable relationships with industry takes a lot of finesse, patience, and dedication to the big picture. While one-off research deals are always welcomed, the real prize for both universities and corporations are long-term strategic partnerships that address the entire spectrum of university-industry collaboration, from research and philanthropy to start-ups, talent development, recruitment, and economic development among others. But to win those partnerships, your long game must have a clear, concise plan to succeed.

The Office of Industry Engagement & Commercial Venturing at Brown University has built a successful model for industry engagement using a scale-up concept called Impact Convergence (ICON). There are several layers of the ICON experience, beginning with ICON Exploration, moving to the ICON Challenge Hub, and ultimately to ICON Impact. Hyundai Motor Company is the first company to enter a new relationship with the university under the ICON model.

Technology Transfer Tactics, in partnership with University-Industry Engagement Advisor, is sponsoring this innovative webinar that will take an inside look at Brown’s new scale-up model and address common issues that face these complex relationships, as well as best practices for impact-driven alignment between industry and universities:

Attendees will leave this program with an action plan for building a roadmap for scalable relationship-building with key industry partners. Join Tracey Dodenhoff, Business Development Consultant at Brown University, when she discusses:

  • Why Industry/University relationships have struggled
  • A New Model: Impact-Driven Alignment
  • Identifying potential partners and exploring shared interests
  • Creating internal teams
  • Zeroing in on prospects with most potential and creating action-oriented items
  • Custom-fitting projects (and teams) that align with industry and university interests
  • Scaling up to long-term projects and strategic partnerships
  • Case studies, tools and techniques
  • Brown University’s ICON program: How the early stages of the ICON model lay the groundwork for a long-term relationship
  • How ICON’s scale-up stages work
